The residency training program offers training in post-graduate
for three years to get the maseter degree at the the end of that period. The dermatology training program centers around
several institutions including Al-Azhar University Hospital and Clinic. These multiple rotations provide a diversity
of patient populations, a very broad spectrum of clinical disease, and exposure to numerous clinical faculty and their different
approaches to the treatment of dermatologic diseases.
An extensive schedule of conferences and lectures are held each week.
There are weekly review sessions of dermatopathology during which residents examine projected slides as well as glass slides
under the microscope. Each week, a current dermatology meeting is done every Sunday reviewed under staff supervision.
Throughout the year, the residents attend a weekly basic science/clinical correlation conference. The conference covers the
basic science, clinical and therapeutic aspects of selected dermatopathology topics. The residents attend weekly dermatopathology
conferences, where histologic diagnosis of diseases is stressed. In addition, during surgical clinics, the residents are assisted
by in-house faculty as well as clinical faculty members. Every Wedenesday Andrology operations also done.
During the three years, basic science and clinical research is encouraged.
During the first year, each resident has the responsibility for first part of the master. In addition, development of clinical
or basic science research project during the second year with presentation during the third year is expected. The areas of
basic science or clinical research are extremely broad because of the extensive and varied interest of the full time and adjunct
faculty. At the completion of the three-year residency, each resident is well prepared for certification, clinical practice,
and if desired, pursuit of an academic career.
